Periodontal Irrigation
Irrigation aims to cleanse the periodontal pocket of the plaque and debris that collects in the interdental spaces (between the teeth) and subgingival (under the gumline) in order to prevent the colonization of harmful oral bacteria. This procedure is also used to deliver antimicrobials to the subgingival (below the gum line) areas. Pocket irrigation may be performed as part of a professional dental cleaning or at home with a specially modified oral irrigator.
